Today, March 8, is International Women's Day, previously known as International Working Women's Day, commemorated ever since the United Nations (UN) proclaimed it in 1975, and with origins dating back to the early 20th century, when working women began demanding universal suffrage, better working conditions, and gender equality.
This year's UN theme is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, which “recognizes the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all.” Therefore, advancing this equality is vital amid climate crises, natural disasters, and migration movements, “as climate change and sustainability have had and will continue to have severe and lasting impacts on our environment, economic and social development. Those who are amongst the most vulnerable and marginalized experience the deepest impacts.”
To commemorate this day, the Service Unit for Persons with Disabilities and Special Educational Needs invites you to participate in the online conference organized by the Equality Unit within the framework of the "International Women's Day" celebration. The scheduled activities are as follows:
