The Spanish Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities (COCEMFE) is a nonprofit NGO founded in 1980. Its purpose is to achieve an inclusive society that guarantees the full exercise of the rights of people with physical and organic disabilities.
This Thursday, themanuals “Rights of People with Disabilities: A Guide to Universal Accessibility”and“Defending the Rights of People with Disabilities: A Guide to Action” were presented. These documents are intended to promote the effective exercise of the rights of this social group and to facilitate the filing of complaints and the pursuit of redress in cases of discrimination and rights violations. They were developed in collaboration with Carlos III University of Madrid.
COCEMFE hopes that these guidelines will play a decisive role in preventing any violation of the rights of people with disabilities and in eliminating barriers, thereby ensuring full inclusion in accordance with the laws established by the Ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda:
- The Guide “Defending the Rights of People with Disabilities: A Guide to Action”aims to strengthen the ability of organizations of people with disabilitiesto identify situations of discrimination and rights violations and to provide guidance on defense mechanisms. Its contents include examples of rights violations and tips for detecting them, as well as various defense and complaint mechanisms and different templates and forms for filing complaints and reports.
- The guide “Rights of People with Disabilities: A Guide to Universal Accessibility”not only provides a theoretical framework on the meaning of accessibility and its legal framework, as well as the types of discrimination and their prohibition in the context of disability, but alsooffers a comprehensive list of measures to be taken in cases of discrimination and lack of accessibility, both at the national and international levels.
