This guide presents recommendations to improve access to, onboarding in, and retention of public sector employment for individuals on the autism spectrum. The recommendations in this guide are drawn from the report titled “Access to Public Sector Employment for Persons with Autism”, produced by the Spanish Centre on Autism Spectrum Disorder. This report reveals that autistic individuals face significant barriers to accessing public sector employment, which begin with the initial job calls and extend through selection tests, onboarding, and job retention.
The guide is structured into two main sections. The first discusses the situation of individuals with autism regarding access to public sector employment, placing special emphasis on the regulatory and legal framework governing it. The second constitutes the core of the guide, first compiling recommendations to facilitate the process of accessing public sector employment and, secondly, those aimed at promoting onboarding and job retention. It concludes with brief remarks on the need to implement these measures to guarantee effective access to public sector employment for persons with autism.
