Image: Transition to Independent Living Service – FAMMA and COCEMFEThe Department of Family, Youth, and Social Policy of the Community of Madrid has the Transition to Independent Living Service (STVI), which takes place in Madrid, in two accessible homes with a capacity for 6 people, managed by FAMMA and COCEMFE.

The purpose of this service isto support and guide people with physical and/or organic disabilities through the process of transitioning to independent living. It is based on the active participation of each individual, who—with the support of a team of professionals working daily accordingto anIndividualized Care Plan—develops the personal and social skills necessary to make steady progress towardachieving a level of autonomy that allows them to liveaccording to their own preferences and desires.

This project consists of providing a range of supports for people with physical and/or organic disabilities to help them acquire and improve the skills needed for independent living. These supports include: housing, guidance, job search and retention assistance, learning attitudes conducive to independent living, and learning the skills needed to function independently. Individuals who meet certain personal and socioeconomic prerequisites can benefit from these supports within a specified time frame, to achieve an independent life.

Beneficiaries 

  • People withphysical and/or organic disabilities, with a recognized disability rating of 33% or higher, not associated with intellectual or other limitations.
  • Be a resident of the Community of Madrid at the time of enrollment in the program.
  • Ages 18–40; however, individuals over the age of 40 may also be eligible for the program if they are deemed suitable candidates, are currently in training, are seeking employment, or are in a job they are working to secure.
  • In addition, they must be motivated and freely choose to participate in the program, be informed about its characteristics, and possess sufficient social and interpersonal skills to benefit from the program.

As a financial requirement: users who have an income and who agree to contribute to the expenses associated with shared living may make a contribution not exceeding 55% of the Public Multiple-Effect Income Indicator (IPREM).
