The objective of this initiative by the Madrid City Council, which began on April 13 of this year, is to grant subsidies to adapt the primary residences of individuals with reduced mobility and sensory or intellectual disabilities who meet the requirements established in the Ordenanza de Bases Reguladoras Generales para la Concesión de Subvenciones por el Ayuntamiento de Madrid y sus Organismos Públicos.
The purpose of this grant is to enhance safety and facilitate mobility inside and outside the residences of individuals with special needs. In doing so, the aim is to improve their quality of life and foster their functional independence. All interventions whose sole purpose is to improve accessibility in the applicants' place of residence will be subsidized, excluding any works related to aesthetic home improvements.
The budget allocated to this initiative for the current year exceeds 3 million euros and is included in the General Budget of the Madrid City Council. Consequently, for individuals with a recognized degree of disability equal to or greater than 33% and less than 65%, the maximum amount will be 14,000 euros. For disability degrees equal to or greater than 65%, up to 25,000 euros will be allocated.
Applicants must fulfill several requirements: they must reside habitually and permanently in the property for which the aid is requested since at least October 2020 and must certify their municipal registration (empadronamiento) at said address. The degree of disability must be equal to or greater than 33% and must include a positive mobility score, or otherwise be of a sensory or intellectual nature. In the case of visual impairment, the degree must be equal to or greater than 65%. Finally, households where multiple members with special needs reside may submit more than one application, provided that the requested interventions do not overlap.
