The goal of this initiative by the Madrid City Council, which began on April 13 of this year, is to provide grants to adapt the primary residences of people with limited mobility and sensory or intellectual disabilities who meet the requirements set forth in the Ordinance on General Regulatory Provisions for the Award of Grants by the Madrid City Council and Its Public Agencies.
The purpose of this grant is to increase safety and facilitate mobility both inside and outside the homes where people with special needs reside. The goal is to improve their quality of life and promote their functional independence. Grants will be provided for all projects whose sole purpose is to improve accessibility at the applicants’ place of residence; projects related to the aesthetic enhancement of the home are excluded.
The budget allocation for this initiative this year exceeds 3 million euros and is included in the General Budget of the Madrid City Council. Therefore, for individuals with a disability rating of 33 percent or higher but less than 65 percent, the maximum amount will be 14,000 euros. For disability levels of 65 percent or higher, 25,000 euros will be allocated.
Applicants must meet several requirements: they must have resided habitually and permanently in the property for which they are requesting assistance since at least October 2020 and must provide proof of their registration on the municipal resident registry for that residence. The degree of disability must be 33 percent or higher and must include a positive mobility rating or involve a sensory or intellectual disability. In the case of visual impairment, the degree of disability must be 65 percent or higher. Finally, households where several members with special needs live together may submit more than one application, provided that the requested services do not overlap.
URJC students interested in this grant must submit their application by July 12 of this year. They can do so online through the city council’s electronic portal or in person at the Madrid City Council’s registration offices.
